THE FUTURE OF PORN: I don't
know about you all, but I have a hunch on where
we're going with our X-rated entertainment: video on
demand.
Imagine not having to go to the video store and get
that look from Grandpa, who assuredly has seen more
Jewel DeNyle videos than
Julia Roberts on the home VCR. Many cable
companies are currently testing or rolling out VOD
services, where you can download, say, any Sex In
The City episode you want whenever you want.
Some cable companies have a small selection of adult
fare but it is mostly like that found on
pay-per-view, missing anals and pop-shots or missing
penetration altogether.
The promise of VOD could possibly mean being able to
see the movie uncut for a fee whenever you wanted.
You could tape the feature and add to your
collection. And the only person that knows is the
computer that tabulates your bill. Pretty cool, huh?
And I don't think online video stores are going to
have to worry too much. Because of bandwidth issues,
even VOD couldn't offer the
Jenna selection that, say,
Gamelink can. But techology could be great news
for us adult fans, especially if a few companies
(hey Vivid, you hear us) start filming some releases
in the high definition format.
High definition TV allows for crystal clear images
that are nearly like looking out of a window. Count
me among those who want to see
Jenna Jameson and
Kira Kenner in such a clear format (talk about
your big bazongas!). And these premium tapes, which
would play in the new digital VCRs, could bring in
extra profits for companies
